Rare Earth Element Deposits in Mongolia

چکیده

In Mongolia, rare earth element (REE) mineralization of economic significance is related either to the Mesozoic carbonatites or Paleozoic peralkaline granitoid rocks. Carbonatites occur as part alkaline silicate-carbonatite complexes, which are composed mainly nepheline syenites and equivalent volcanic The complexes were emplaced in Gobi-Tien Shan rift zone southern Mongolia where usually form dikes, plugs intruded into brecciated mineralized carbonatites, REE fluorocarbonates (bastnäsite, synchysite, parisite) apatite. Apatite also present carbonatite-hosted apatite-magnetite (mostly altered hematite) bodies. Alkaline silicate rocks show common geochemical features such enrichment light but relative depletion Ti, Zr, Nb, Ta Hf similar Sr Nd isotopic characteristics suggesting involvement heterogeneous lithospheric mantle formation both associated Hydrothermal fluids magmatic origin played an important role genesis deposits. with felsic (peralkaline granites, pegmatites) occurs Mongolian Altai northwestern Mongolia. largely hosted accessory minerals (mainly elpidite, monazite, xenotime, fluorocarbonates), can reach percentage levels zones. Mineralogical Studies in Assisting Beneficiation of Rare Earth Element Minerals from Carbonatite Deposits

Rare earth elements (REE) are either housed in exotic REE minerals that sporadically populate the host rock or they occur as ionic substitutions in the crystal structure of existing rock-forming minerals. The genesis of REEs in carbonatite rocks can result in intricate mineralogical textures between REE minerals, host rock minerals, and minerals formed by later processes. Upfront mineralogical ...

Formation of carbonatite-related giant rare-earth-element deposits by the recycling of marine sediments

Carbonatite-associated rare-earth-element (REE) deposits are the most significant source of the world's REEs; however, their genesis remains unclear. Here, we present new Sr-Nd-Pb and C-O isotopic data for Cenozoic carbonatite-hosted giant REE deposits in southwest China. These REE deposits are located along the western margin of the Yangtze Craton that experienced Proterozoic lithospheric accr...

Overland Flow Using Rare Earth Element

14 15 Rare earth element oxides (REOs) have excellent potential for use as tracers in 16 erosion studies. Using laboratory and field experiments we aimed to develop and test 17 a simple application method for spreading REOs and to use REOs to determine the 18 source of sediment to concentrated overland flow paths. 19 Tracks left by farm machinery (tramlines) in fields act as concentrated flow 2...

Hydrothermal formation of heavy rare earth element (HREE)– xenotime deposits at 100 °C in a sedimentary basin

Most rare earth element deposits form from magmatic fluids, but there have also been discoveries of heavy rare earth element (HREE)– enriched hydrothermal xenotime deposits within sedimentary basins. As xenotime is notoriously insoluble, the question arises as to whether these lesser-known deposits form at typical basin temperatures or by influx of much hotter magmatic-hydrothermal fluids. The ...

Contamination in the Rare-Earth Element Orthophosphate Reference Samples

Several of the fourteen rare-earth element (plus Sc and Y) orthophosphate standards grown at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the 1980s and widely distributed by the Smithsonian Institution's Department of Mineral Sciences, are significantly contaminated by Pb. The origin of this impurity is the Pb2P2O7 flux that is derived from the thermal decomposition of PbHPO4. The lead pyrophosphate flux i...
